The United Nations General Assembly first adopted World Food Security Day in December 2018. For the first time, this Day was celebrated in 2019 with the theme of “Food safety, everyone’s business”.

The Food safety day in India

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has developed the State Food Safety Index (SFSI) in states’ efforts to provide safe food.

In addition, FSSAI introduced the “Eat Right Award” to recognize the contribution of food companies and individuals to empower citizens to make safe and healthy food choices.

FSSAI has connected many celebrities to make the ‘Eat Right India’ campaign comprehensive across the country. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has declared seven campuses:

Universities, Schools, Colleges, Institutes, Workplaces, Defense / Para Military Establishments, Hospitals and Jails as ‘Eat Right Campus’.

The ‘Eat Right Jacket’ and ‘Eat Right Jhola’ also launched the ‘Food Security Mitra (FSM)’ scheme to strengthen the food security system and make the ‘Eat Right India’ campaign more comprehensive.

The FDA makes sure that people are taking care of hygiene in cooking. Also, the FDA works to promote and protect the health of the public. According to the WHO report, 1 in 10 people in the world falls ill due to contaminated food.
